Purpose and goal
The aim and goal of the project was to build knowledge on the most important mechanisms in the coating process and develop novel coatings for iron ore pellets. An efficient surface treatment will make the DR-process more efficient. LKAB and SP jointly develop a novel method to describe the coating process. We hope the method will accelerate the development of novel formulations for an efficient surface treatment. A range of formulations and hypothesis were evaluated in the project. The most promising formulations will be evaluated further.

Structure and implementation
SP and LKAB jointly developed a method to divide the coating process in relevant parts. Each part was studied in detail and key parameters were identified. The new knowledge will be used to accelerate the development of novel coatings. Already within the frame of this project promising formulations were found which will be further optimised.

Results
The partners in the project have jointly developed new knowledge about the fundamental mechanisms in the coating process and successfully developed novel surface treatments for iron ore pellets. Furthermore, we have developed a novel method to describe the coating process. We hope this method will accelerate the development of novel surface treatments.
